Our work
The Centre for Gender and Environment aims to work towards a more equitable and just society through bringing awareness and supporting and empowering women in accessing entitlements. we are dedicated to addressing two pressing global issues—climate change and the adverse impacts of chemical agriculture. Our multifaceted approach involves on-the-ground initiatives and widespread educational efforts to drive meaningful change.
On-the-Ground Initiatives:
Village Workshops: We conduct training and awareness workshops in rural villages, where the repercussions of climate change and chemical-intensive farming are often felt the most. Consider this: Over 80% of the world's smallholder farmers, the backbone of many villages, are directly affected by climate change according to the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD).
Community Empowerment: Through these workshops, we empower local communities with practical knowledge on sustainable farming practices, emphasizing the importance of agroecology and organic farming. This not only helps mitigate climate change but also reduces the health risks associated with chemical inputs.
Educational Outreach:
Webinars and Lectures: Leveraging the power of technology, we conduct engaging webinars and lectures, reaching audiences in colleges and schools. Education is a key driver for sustainable development, and fostering an understanding of environmental issues is crucial for future leaders.
Gender and Environmental Perspectives: We approach these issues from a gender and environmental perspective, recognizing that women often play a central role in agriculture, and that climate change affects men and women differently.
